Our Shul

Spend just one Shabbat in our community, and you will agree.  There is something special about Linden, New Jersey.  Few communities are as friendly, exciting, inclusive, and open as Congregation Anshe Chesed.  We are a community infused with a family atmosphere, dedicated to Ahavat Yisrael (love of your neighbor), bound by our dedication to spiritual growth, supported by one another, and devoted to the future of the Jewish people.  Add to this a short commute to New York City, access to various religious, educational, and kosher amenities, and affordable housing options, and you can see why Linden has become the destination for young, modern Orthodox couples and families looking to settle down and raise their families in an affordable, convenient and warm community.

Our 95th Anniversary Dinner, June 2009

We take pride in our friendliness and openness, and it is apparent to anyone who walks in the doors of our shul.  Anshe Chesed resembles a family in the way that members support each other, spend time with each other, and care for each other.  The members of Anshe Chesed often gather at the park on a Shabbat afternoon, plan activities together, and enjoy time with each other’s families.  All are welcome, and all are included.

While the feel of Anshe Chesed resembles many out-of-town communities, we’re very close to downtown New York City (about a 30-minute drive and 35 minute train ride), and we benefit from the many amenities shared by the communities of Northern New Jersey, Staten Island, and Brooklyn.

Congregation Anshe Chesed is the central focus of the Linden Jewish community.  Anshe Chesed is the center for prayer, shiurim, and social activities for the Linden Jewish community.  The community regularly holds barbeques, outings, get togethers, and a full program of shiurim and activities of all types centered around Congregation Anshe Chesed.  The shul is across the street from a beautiful park with a fishing pond, playground, basketball and tennis courts. The shul’s magnificent building contains a gym, a full catering hall (capacity 300), a beis medrash, and a library, as well as main and auxiliary sanctuaries. Linden has its own eruv that extends about a mile in each direction around the shul and is checked weekly.

Housing is surprisingly affordable for the New York area.  Nice 3-bedroom houses begin below  $200K.  Larger and nicer homes are peppered throughout the town and are available as well.  Four bedroom houses begin in the low $300Ks.  Other housing options include one, two, and three bedroom garden apartments for rent (2 bedrooms for $1095), co-ops and multi-family homes for purchase or rent all within close walking distance of the shul, not to mention within the eruv.

We look forward to hosting you in our community.  If you would like to spend Shabbat with us, please contact Atara Gross.
